ABOUT THE BOOK « L'ŒUVRE DE MARCEL DUPRE » BY THE CHANOINE DELESTRE
MEUDON JUNE 1982

The book entitled « L'Oeuvre de Marcel Dupré », published in 1952 by the « Editions de la Musique Sacrée », had been desired by the Master himself.
It was for him like a flash-back on the past (the subject of the seven beginning chapters), a look at his published works (chapter 6 and 9 to 13). The book was also like an assessment of his symphonic research (chapter 8) of his musical language (chapter 14), and of his work with youth (chapter 15). It also represented a precise classification of his writing in the form of a catalogue (Titles, dates and places of first performances, editors). The immediate opportunity was his decision to seek entrance to the « Institut de France » by justifying this entrance to his future colleagues.
Marcel Dupré directed organ interpretation courses in Rouen. New talents asserted themselves during these lessons : Pierre Labric, Odile Pierre, Marie-Thérèse Duthoit, Pierre Vilette and many others. Recitals were given at St Ouen by André-Marie Lamy, Denise Raffy. It was during theses « Semaines de l'Orgue » that the Master confided to me his desire of a precise study of his works, drawn up under his direction. He asked me for a first draft.
